4th New Europe International Festival: Love
4th edition of the New Europe International Festival: Love September - December 2023
Can we still talk about love? Do we even know what love is? Stretched between Saint Paul’s Song of Songs and its more radical version penned by Paul B. Preciado, we still design universal fantasies which are then quickly elevated into binding standards. We keep defining something that eludes both definition and attempts at monetization. We sell love, but have no idea how to awaken it in another person.
Maybe it’s high time we finally redefine love? Recast it to include unfulfillment, rejection, revulsion, pharmacopornography, sexual hell, violence, and erotic flowers of evil, so nihilistic and yet so alluring? And then draw pleasure from this force so unreasonable, unromantic, carnal, destructive, redeeming, and liberating?
A strange thing it is, to desire something that straddles boundaries, but remains ceaselessly elusive.
Love is all you need? But what does that even mean?
Taking a stand against the increasingly ephemeral and festival-centric character of cultural life, we chose an ongoing formula for our event, which will run from September to December. We want to avoid framing our shows as fleeting, transient events, but want to turn them into a consistent practice of meeting with important theater artists from Europe and all over the globe.
Join us as we experience, discover, and confront a rich variety of perspectives, as well as engage in debate and conversation.
