Confusion is growing, anxieties and fears are what we live by. To break out of situations of complex interdependence, we need to understand what is happening around us and why. To diagnose the state of things. The role of theatre is to assess and filter events so that, based on the signals we observe, the key moments can be grasped before it is too late. And the most profound understanding lies in looking carefully at how we move around ourselves.
The New Europe Festival is a holistic project, taking an overall view of the phenomena and processes, but remaining eclectic so as to avoid falling into a routine. It is a laboratory of imaginary geography, exploring our existing perceptions of the world connected to our habits.
Our findings suggest that there is nowhere to turn back to. That is why we are announcing fleeing forward!
Since its establishment, Nowy Teatr has taken its programme of presenting guest performances seriously. In the absence of an international theatre forum in Warsaw, it seeks to fill this gap and invite performances that pave new ways in the performing arts.
We oppose the ephemeral and festive character of cultural life with a festival on going formula. We want the shows not to be a short-lived event, but to become a regular practice of meeting important artists of European and world theatre.
