Our new theatrical production "Disastronautics" will be a stage (ethno)science fiction, inspired by "Perform or Else" by Jon McKenzie and Witold Lutoslawski's composing method, especially by his concept of limited/controlled aleatorism. It is designed as a concert-lecture in which chance (accident, disaster) would be both the subject and the method (games, algorithms, scripts) of our work. It will be the story of challenging both the World and each Other among the representatives of misterious Disastronautics (Challengers) tribe, whose peculiar feature is being infected with disaster. Their apparent being doomed to catastrophe makes them continuously test catastrophe's limits, examine its co-ordinates, play with its forms of all sorts and kinds. They invent special kind of the gay science - disasterology. Its aim is to discover rules governing new forms of disasters which come into existence as a result of new inventions. Although they come from different epochs and places, they are situated aboard the shuttle Challenger, in the spinning out and bending moment of its taking-off, somewhere between year 1542 (Francisco de Orellana's journey to Amazon Rainforest) and early years of the XXI century. Peculiar patron of Disastronautics, constant - open or hidden - point of reference for their thoughts and activities, is Witold Lutoslawski and his composing method. Their activities are governed by attempting to limit or turn radical (paradoxical) rules of controlled aleatorism, to permanently discuss them. They rely on chance at the same moment controlling it by such means as frames, plans and scripts.
