It’s a musical story about work, told in the form of a theatrical mockumentary.

The story of two bakers who disappeared for no apparent reason. And yet, they had employment contracts — so what could have gone wrong?

A concert version of The Song…, in which actors create a live soundtrack to a tale of artisanal exploitation, invites us into a bakery — behind the glass, we can watch the brave, hard-working laborers at their craft.

This dark fable about employers and employees reflects on work that gives a fleeting sense of usefulness while just as quickly stripping away one’s dignity.

A fashionable bakery, with long queues for thirty-zloty loaves of bread, turns out to be no exception to capitalist mechanisms. But should it really come as a surprise that a glowing neon sign with a charming name doesn’t guarantee respect for labor law?

Or perhaps the socially conscious owners have blurred the real picture of sleepless, physical toil?

And above all — how can rebellion exist in a place that smells of freshly baked bread?

“Well, everything was fine until they started doing the night shifts on their own.
Half the neighborhood would gather outside the bakery — they were blasting some kind of rap music.
I told them once, then again.
Do you think that helped?
Even more people came.
So finally, I told them:
You’re good lads, and you bake well —
but it’s either rap or bread.”

The performance takes part in the 32nd National Competition for the Staging of Contemporary Polish Plays.
