Instalakcje 4. Music installations festival

Fourth edition of international music installations festival

Fourth edition of international music installations festival

The fourth edition of the Instalakcje festival includes a varied list of composers and performers who construct new instruments or redefine the ones that we all know. A specific acoustic synthesizer, computer sound games, walls reverberating with a delicate sound or an instrument we can ‘hear’ via our teeth are just some examples of the works to see, hear and feel at the festival.
Instalakcje 4 will also include concerts with music created by electric toothbrushes, plastic cups and the sounds of crushing, rubbing or breaking. You will also get to know the music notated as a notebook, where each page contains instructions for a musician, actually for anyone. Even for you!

Schichtung – joint performance
This year we invite everyone to perform Schichtung, an
extremely subtle composition. This is a half and hour long perfor-mative installation, the type of sound meditation.
The musicians performing the composition are at one’s
fingertips, one can approach them, sit next to them, lie on
the ground and listen to the gentle sounds of voice and breath
of the performer. In order to perform, one does not need
any musical experience or ability to read musical notation,
just imagination.

Robin Minard (Canada/Germany) will invite the listener to the very intimate listening of sound, using small speakers to revive the basement walls of the Ujazdowski Castle. Drew Allen (USA) will program a band of virtual instruments that you can conduct on a computer screen and make your own orchestra.
Krzysztof Cybulski (Poland) was commissioned by the festival to create a kind of acoustic synthesizer, consisting of a set of flutes with slide mechanisms that will be connected to the computer and register to the voice of the person speaking to the microphone. The synthesizer will reproduce the person’s speech, singing, whisper, based on spectral analysis. Figuratively speaking, the instrument will have a human voice.
At concerts of the percussive quartet This/That (Switzerland) and Yaron Deutsch (Israel) we will hear the music of the wizard of new sounds, Michael Maierhof (Germany) and Pierluigi Billone (Italy) who breaks sounds into prime factors with a scientific zeal. We will hear compositions played on plastic cups, balloons, sponges, electric toothbrushes and an electric guitar.
Australian composer and performer Aviva Endean will use earplugs and hand movement to turn the faces of the public into living resonators, while Anna Zaradny (Poland) is going to transform potted plants into electronic instruments.
As usual, we have prepared a special project for the audience of the festival, this time a performance installation of Martin Hiendl (Germany), which will introduce the performer and the recipients into the delicate world of sounds scattered in space and will prove that playing music from scores does not have to be that difficult.
If you are interested in feeling the sound between your own teeth, then don’t miss the Simon Loeffler’s composition (Denmark), intriguingly titled „c”.
