Born in 1966 on Adak, an Aleutian Island in Alaska, David Vann is the author of numerous short stories and several novels, since translated into over 20 languages, and the winner of 14 literary prizes.

It took almost 10 years for David to complete writing his first novel, titled Legend of a Suicide. Initially, no publisher was interested in this tale of troubled relations between a father and son – it took David another 10 years in which to find such a publisher, meanwhile earning a living from building boats and sailing Alaskan waterways. It was only once he had turned 42, that Legend of a Suicide was finally published, to instant acclaim in the US, as well as many other foreign markets.

David Vann has visited Poland twice before – this time, we will meet the author to hear him talk about his second book, titled Dirt, translated into Polish by Dobromiła Jankowska and published by Pauza Press.
