SOLARIUM OF NOWY TEATR

NOWY TEATR: SOLARIUM

2022/2023

In the Solarium of the New Theatre, visual artists present video works in which the light will keep you warm. The programme stands in contrast to the mental winter - darkness of mind, frozen horizons and icy feelings.

From June 2022 to the end of 2023, the program will review new works by: WIXAPOL, Krzysztof Baginski, Filip Preis, Marcjanna, Julek Ploski, X-Philes, Aaron Ratajczyk and Filipka Rutkowska.

The presented works have their origins in performance and in the body individual and collective, visible and invisible, present in private and public space. The body, which the artists look at, stretches between the dancefloor of a nightclub and a monument hidden deep in the ground (or are they the same place?). It seeks its agents in the puppet theatre, it is reflected in the home mirror in front of which it dances with a drink. It is poetry and protest. It turns its skin into a digital shell, wanders in Maya Deren's dreams, seeks freedom.

Solarium is a video guide through the darkness, in which the artists propose a different vision of reality or a different way of describing it. They encourage us to remain hopeful, to affirm a successful struggle, to look for new forms of self-identification, to build an interspecies community, to be together in the darkness.

In one of his interviews, Zbigniew Libera said that light tries to create images, as if it was the purpose of its existence. And it is precisely this inseparable relationship between light and art that will be the subject of the artistic works presented in Solarium, both in its formal and metaphorical aspects.
